Digress Olympic N Flick Day 3

PICK: GREAT BRITAIN MEN’S GYMNASTICS TEAM

The British men’s gymnastics team won a bronze medal in the 1912 Stockholm Games.  Not wanting to gloat, they opted to be awful for a brief period: an even one hundred years, to be precise.  But the epoch of deference is over - Ye Olde Empire finds itself once more in the bronze age of rings and vaults and other forms of competitive masochism.  Given the Brits’ reverence for ridiculous feats of body motion, it’s hard to understand why it took so long.

FLICK: US SWIM COACH, TOM LEONARD

Chinese swimmer, Ye Shiwen, is two things right now - astonishing and not a drug cheat.  These statuses may well change in the future, but until then, it is shamefully irresponsible and utterly futile to point the finger.  Top Amurkhan coach and newest Chinese nuclear target, Tom Leonard, didn’t get the memo.  Right here, right now, what is to be gained from such an allegation?  At best, the chance to say “I was right!” at a later date.  At worst, to go down as the guy who publicly debased once-in-a-generation greatness.
