Digress Olympic N Flick Day 4

PICK: RAONIC VS TSONGA

Good thing there is four years between Olympics - the third set of this second round singles match might’ve gone on to Rio de Janeiro.  6-3, 3-6…25-23.  Seven hours.  Standing ovation.  Assured place in Olympic folklore.  All this from two millionaire athletes playing for nothing but their country and a chance to wear a shiny medally thing around their neck.  Whoever says privileged pros have no place in the Games should watch that third set whilst repeatedly punching themselves in the amateur region.

FLICK: CHINESE BADMINTON PAIR, XIAOLI WANG AND YANG YU

So, how do the Chinese follow up on the disgraceful, jump-the-gun accusations against Ye Shiwen and their swimming program’s reputation?  By throwing a badminton match, that’s how.  And, sadly, it appears they were not alone in their sandbagging.  According to ESPN, four pairs - the Chinese duo, two South Korean teams, and one from Indonesia - have been charged by the thoroughly scary Badminton World Federation (BWF) with “conducting oneself in a manner that is clearly abusive or detrimental to the sport”.  If found guilty in the BWF thunderdome of justice, what punishment should be doled out to these fixers?  May we suggest watching lots of badminton.
